Your options are innumerable for things to do whilst staying at Loyton, depending on the favour of you and your guests

Walks and historical sites

The Lodge is set in beautiful open Devon countryside, so there are plenty of walks direct from your door, and in the surrounding area.  Devon and Cornwall boast stunning scenery, so a short drive will elucidate the many fabulous sights and scenes of ancient historical interest..  There are many gardens of note and those participating in the Yellow Book Scheme – a lovely day trip, perhaps combined with one of the historic houses and National Trust venues within reach – each with their own programme of events and tours..

For sporty types

For those seeking action…try surfing on the North coast, cycling, canoeing and sailing…  clay pigeon shooting is available – on the Loyton estate for parties of 8 upwards, or individual tuition on adjacent ground.  [see under News and Events]  Or perhaps golf is your thing – try one of several renowned courses in the area.  Equestrians can enjoy hunting, polo, racing or gentle riding…all within easy distance.

Nearby towns

Local towns provide historic and cultural interest.  Nearby is Dulverton – setting of the 'Land Girls' and integral to the life of Exmoor – which provides excellent shopping opportunities and some good lunch venues.  From here you can depart on an Exmoor Safari – tour with a ranger and see the amazing flora and fauna of this National Park.  Bampton, our nearest town has an excellent supply of local fare.  Markets take place regularly throughout the area, giving a good insight to local life and an opportunity to support the local farmers and makers of wonderful often organic produce.

Further afield

Dependent upon the distance you are prepared to travel, Exeter cathedral city – cultural centre of a once prosperous wool trading county - and beyond, has a wealth of historical interest and offers many things to do.  Turn the other way and find spiritual solace and reflection at the great Glastonbury Abbey and Tor.

Closer to home

Enjoy croquet on the lawn, a game of billiards, or a specific entertainment such as a special WINE TASTING.  Massage and BEAUTY treatments can also be arranged here with prior warning.

Otherwise, with roaring log fires and plenty of space, the Lodge provides a comfortable home from home in which to relax, read and rest.
