Art, Massage, Wine and Film

Something for everyone!

Health and Beauty

With a focus on alternative health and herbalism, we hope to hold regular events at Loyton, according to demand, exploring and offering some of the many and increasingly popular alternative TREATMENTS and THERAPIES now available, including:
Chavutti massage – new and exciting, this unusual therapy is not offered widely, a fascinating form of body massage from Thailand, using the practioner's feet.

  • Acupuncture
  • Herbalism
  • Alexander Technique
  • Crystal healing and health advice

Art Courses, Exhibitions and Lectures

Similar to the music courses, we intend to make available professionally tutored 5-day residential painting courses, inspired by the fabulous country surrounding Loyton. Exhibitions will be held on and off throughout the season, open to any subject and media fitting display at Loyton.

In May 2004  we held a highly successful exhibition of Hunting Photographs by Amanda Lockhart for two weeks, before she toured to London's Space Gallery. Please contact us for details of her forthcoming book 'Scent'.  We are currently discussing an exhibition by the Westcountry's leading furniture makers.  On-site tutoring and lectures will be programmed, with a particular focus on the Arts of Devon and Cornwall, the rich history of a prosperous, rural county, and some of its beautiful historic houses.

Cookery and Food

Various one-off events will take place, to include wine-tastings, either day or weekend courses, and food fairs in support of the local farmers and producers.  There is also the possibility that a themed cookery weekend could take place, with tuition by professional chefs from England or Italy.

Wine-tastings   -  always a popular pastime on Exmoor!

Film Screenings

Plans are afoot to create small-scale cinema viewing for members to enjoy a 'Cinema Supper' – classic, art house and contemporary films will be shown regularly throughout the season, followed by supper and a bottle afterwards.

Members evenings - an opportunity to meet on allocated evenings for supper and chat and a game of billiards…  The atmosphere will be 'club-like' and open to members only.

Are you intrigued?

If you are intrigued by any of the possible events mentioned above, and would like to encourage us to go ahead with the ideas, or indeed would like to suggest or be involved in an event to be held at Loyton, please contact Isobel Barnes at  isobel@loytonlodge.com
